The Essence of Rummy Game

At its core, the card game of Rummy is a test of wit, strategy, and anticipation. Players aim to arrange their cards into valid sets and sequences, thereby reducing their hand to zero points. Whether it's the casual rounds with friends or the intense competitions in online platforms, the thrill of melding cards and outmanoeuvring opponents remains unmatched. This is considered as one of the best card games to play in your free time.

Understanding Points Rummy Game

Points Rummy, a popular format of the rummy game, is characterised by its swift gameplay and straightforward rules. Unlike other variants such as Pool Rummy or Gin Rummy, where players compete to reach a certain score or complete specific objectives, Points Rummy revolves around individual hands, with each game concluding after a single round.

Central to Points Rummy is the scoring system, which determines the outcome of each hand.

1. Face Value: Number cards carry points equivalent to their face value, while face cards (Jacks, Queens, and Kings) carry 10 points each. The Ace, depending on the variant, can be counted as 1 or 11 points.

2. Joker Points: In Indian Rummy, the Joker card holds zero points. However, if it's used as a substitute for a card in a valid sequence or set, the points of the replaced card are added to the player's total.

3. Penalty Points: At the end of each hand, if a player fails to meld their cards into valid sets and sequences, they accumulate penalty points based on the cards left in their hand.

1. Dealing Cards: A standard deck of 52 cards is used, and each player is dealt a predetermined number of cards at the beginning of the game.

2. Objective: The primary goal is to form valid sets and sequences using the cards in hand. A valid declaration must include at least one pure sequence, i.e., a sequence without the use of a Joker card.

3. Drop Option: Players have the choice to drop from the game if they find their hand unfavorable. Depending on when they drop, they incur specific penalty points.

4. Gameplay: Players take turns to draw cards from the closed or open deck and discard unwanted cards to reduce their hand to zero points.

5. Declaration: Upon arranging their cards into valid sets and sequences, a player declares and ends the hand. You can take part in different rummy tournament coupled with the element of skill, making it a favourite among beginners and seasoned players alike. Whether played casually during social gatherings or competitively in online platforms, the thrill of Points Rummy endures as a timeless classic in the realm of card games. So, gather your cards, sharpen your skills, and dive into the excitement of Points Rummy today!

  • According to rummy point rules, players must compete for points from a pre-decided rupee value, and each player must contribute to the pool prize.
  • A toss round will determine the first player to start the game, upon which all players will receive 13 cards randomly.
  • The first card from the pack is placed in the open deck to start the game. The others will be placed face-down in the closed deck section.
  • In rummy point rules, players must randomly select a joker card when the game begins and arrange all 13 cards in sets or sequences.
  • Every player must take turns picking or discarding cards from the closed and open decks to complete their sets and sequences. One or more jokers can also be used to complete sets and sequences.
  • Players must group their cards in sets and sequences before clicking the declare button. For a valid declaration, two sequences are required from which one must be pure. Players are prohibited from using the same card twice in one set when using two card decks.

Before you learn to play points rummy on Big Cash, you must download the app. After installing the app, open it and select points rummy from different rummy versions available. Choose a tournament and pay the entry fee to start playing.

  • After paying the fee, other players will join you at the table, where you will each receive 13 cards. The other cards will be at the draw pile facing down and the card atop the draw pile will be placed at the bottom as the joker card. Another card will create the discard pile, and this card is placed face up at the centre of the table. This is the pile where you discard cards you are not using and replace them with one from the draw pile.
  • From there, use the cards to make hand combinations by melding them into sets and sequences for online points rummy. Each hand must have two sequences, and a pure sequence is compulsory.
  • Once players make their hands, you must show your two sequences, even if one is impure. If a player makes a valid show without unmatched cards, they earn 0 rummy points, which are winning points. If a player makes a valid show with other unmatched cards, their point value is deductible from the total card points of the opponents.

The maximum winning points in this game is 80 rummy points. The scores are calculated as follows:

  • Ace, King, Queen and Joker each have a value of 10 points. All numbers from 2 to 10 have points equal to their face values. So if a card is numbered 7, it carries 7 points and the joker and wild card do not have any points.
  • The player who makes the first valid declaration is awarded 0 points. The winnings are calculated as follows:
  • Total points for all opponents X rupee value of all points = Winnings
  • The losing player also gets the points of their ungrouped cards calculated when they make a valid declaration. If a player loses with three ungrouped cards like 7 (spade), ace of hearts and 9 (spades), they get a 26 rummy points penalty.
  • If the player fails to make a pure sequence, the point value of their cards in hand will determine the penalty points. If they get one pure sequence, the point value of the ungrouped cards will be summed to calculate the penalty points. In addition, the sets are only valid if a player makes at least two sequences.
  • Therefore, if a player makes a pure sequence and a set without another sequence, the ungrouped cards' value is added to the penalty points. The maximum point score is 80, and even if the calculated score surpasses 80 points, the points will be shaved off to 80 rummy points.
